How Big Girly Girls Do It.

It seems I'm getting girl-ier with age. All of a sudden I seem to gravitate towards anything pink or (gasp!) heart shaped. Don't get me wrong. I will forever feel best in head to toe black monochrome, but it feels so right adding a bit of bubble gum to my usual dark party.

Today I wanna share with you some of the most luxurious girly-girl jewels out there.  Pour yourself a Shirley Temple, pull up those bobby socks, and get that lip gloss poppin'. You're about to take Pretty Pretty Princess to a whole new level.

Let's start this post off on a super strong foot. I've long had an affinity for brooches and the jewel pictured above is literally fit for a queen so it seems a good one to begin with.

The Williamson Brooch boasts an incredible round cut, pale pink center stone, which is said to be the finest pink diamond ever discovered. The uncut stone was first given to Princess Elizabeth as a wedding gift in 1947 weighing in at 54.5cts, and was later faceted into a brilliant cut round stone of 23.6cts, maximizing its color and brilliance. In 1953 Frederick Mew of Cartier created the jonquil flower brooch with the stone as seen above.

Soooo...If you would've asked me a year ago what my thoughts were on heart shape diamonds I would've told you it was a waste of good rock...now...not so much. I'm actually fu%$ing obsessed with Lady Gaga's heart shape engagement ring. This 10ct stunner had me drooling all over her Instagram for countless hours when she first posted it. This sparkler designed by Lorraine Schwartz is estimated to have costs over half a million dollars (and was well worth it if you ask me).

We all remember back in 1998 when there was that movie with Leonardo Dicaprio on a boat with Celine Dion or something like that... It was small. Barely anyone saw it. I think it was called Titanic, maybe?

But seriously. Remember that crazy necklace called 'The Heart Of The Ocean'? Well, not long after the film was made designers at Harry Winston decided they needed to create a big, badass necklace like that. So they did. Behold the $20million 15ct blue diamond necklace worn to the Academy Awards by Gloria Stuart.

I think I could wear nothing but that piece and feel completely confident to go out into public. Like 'Here I am, world. Just me and my necklace.'

I'm gonna end this on a super duper high note. The last jewel I'm going to talk about tonight is the Pink Star Diamond. This Fancy Vivid Pink bauble weighs in at just under 60cts. In 2003 the PInk Star sold at Sotheby's Auction for  a world record price of $83,187,381 USD. The unidentified buyer later defaulted on his or her purchase so this incredible gem was added to the Sotheby's collection.

I hope you've all had fun reading about the jewels of the worlds most elite girly-girls.  What are your thoughts on pink diamonds and heart shaped jewels? Would you wear Lady Gaga's heart shape engagement ring? I'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below.

Sapphire Celebration

It's been my birthday for about an hour now according to Eastern Standard Time, and I needed to update the blog, so I thought it would be fitting to take a look at this months birthstone.

SAPPHIRE

Sapphires have been prized for centuries as truly sacred and valuable stones. Sapphires have been worn in jewelry fit for royals and lovers of luxury alike as symbols of truth, loyalty, nobility, and faithfulness. It's rich coloring remains the standard in blue gemstones to date.

Let's take a little journey through the ages and have a look at some of the worlds biggest and most famous sapphires.

Princess Diana with her 18 carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Diana chose this ring for a 'commoners price' of $60,00 in 1981 and now resides on the hand of Duchess Kate.

She donated the necklace to the Smithsonian in 1967, and it is on display in the Gem Gallery at the National Museum of Natural History.

Citrine. My Old Faithful.

When I first started getting into gemstones citrine was one that I was immediately drawn to. I was ravenous about learning the properties of each stone, and the metaphysics of citrine really spoke my language.

Happy yellow citrine is known as a powerful cleanser and is said to harness the power of the sun and dissolve negative energy.

One of the most alluring things I learned while researching is that citrine is considered a 'stone of abundance'  and helps to manifest and attract wealth and prosperity. Upon reading this fact I immediately made it a point to acquire as much citrine as possible. I'd carry citrine in my wallet. Put citrine in the money corner of my house according to the rules of feng shui, and wore as much citrine jewelry as I could get my hands on.

Above is the massive citrine cocktail ring my babe made for me a couple of years ago. I still wear it pretty much daily (although I've considered having it undergo a makeover.) I love this ring. The emerald cut stone is just a few points shy of 25cts. You can definitely tell it's one of our older style cocktail rings, but it's got a timeless kind of gaudy that never gets old.

Let's reminisce on some more citrine from the Gem Steady archives, shall we.....

Bedazzling The Bride

So. My sister got married a couple of weeks ago, and I will confess right here that it was the most fun wedding I've been to ever. The energy was amazing that day. Laughter and smiles were out in full force. Everyone's makeup was on point. The bridesmaid dresses turned out to be way hotter than expected (which is really great if you're semi-narcissist. I admit it).

It was good. Really good.

I'm not normally a drinker but the champagne and cocktails were flowing heavy and the DJ was killing it, so of course my dancing shoes got some heavy work in. Fun Brittany was out in full force.

But anyway. What I'm really here for is to show you all of the jewels we made for the bride and her maids.

If you follow us on  Instagram (@gemsteady. Do It!) then you may have already seen the engagement ring and wedding bands (Yes that's bands. Plural) we made for Betsy so I'm going to skip those for now and go straight to the earrings.

We love a gorgeous drop earring just as much as the next guy, but we wanted to make her a pair that could be both formal and functional for daily wear. Betsy's dress was a sexy mas-up of old school glam and modern vixen, so we decided on this simplistic round and pear shape design to streamline the whole look and make the ultimate classic bride statement. These were perfect for her big day, but also practical for daily wear as the pear cut stone is easily removed so the round studs can be worn all by themselves.

                                                                      &nbs…

                                                                              Side View.

Next up we have the bridesmaids gifts. Betsy was extremely generous to her maids and blinged us all the way out. I was lucky enough to be dubbed Maid of Honor so it was a major score for me too :) yay!

All seven of us received these gorgeous emerald cut white topaz studs. I was really wanting some new every day studs so I was really glad that it was my sisters obligation to both buy presents for her bridal party and support her sisters jewelry business. Everyone wins. Hooray!

At the last minute Betsy decided that everyone needed necklaces too. Since the Whittle Master was busy making jewels that require serious skills and couldn't be bothered we opted to go for something I could make quickly sans torch, so pearl necklaces it was!

We literally didn't get all the materials until about two days before the wedding so it was a mad dash putting all of them together in time. We made it though :D

Here's a couple shots from our way to the venue.

Just practicing our resting bitch face before the big event.

Papaw was thrilled to be between two beautiful ladies.

Aaaaand this is what the Whittle Master and I looked like by the end of the night. I would show you my SnapChat story, but I was way too fun in it. You'll just have to start following me (@gemsteady duh!) to catch all of my behind the scenes shenanigans.

I'm going to stop here for now. I can't wait to get some of the professional pictures back from the photographers so I have better things to post than these selfies. Stay tuned for part 2 of the Bedazzling the Bride series and I will tell you all about the bride and grooms rings.

Thanks for reading this post. What did you think about the earrings and necklaces we made for Betsy's wedding? Do you like the idea of convertible earrings? Tell me about it in the comments below and please follow, share, and like this post on Facebook.

She Said 'YES!'- A Custom Engagement Story

It's a couple months shy of our official three year Gem Steady jewel-versary. I even can't begin to describe how stoked I am about how far we've come in such a short span of time.

I think one of the things we're most proud and honored to create are our custom engagement rings and wedding jewelry. We have been seriously blessed with the best clients out there, who let us run wild with their ideas. Our clients are insanely hip, free spirited, and hella stylish. They want their jewels to be completely original and unapologetically 'them'.

Our brides and grooms want a ring that is as unique as their love and the lives that they've vowed to share with each other.

The ring I am going to share with you today has had me seriously mesmerized.

It all began when our lovely groom-to-be contacted us via email with a few photos of gemstones, designs, and shapes he liked. He expressed interest in a marquise shape, loved the organic inclusions of lodolite quartz, thought some ombre colored halo detailing would be a nice touch, and of course-diamonds....

Here's the initial design I sent him.

Luckily our vibes were in sync and he loved the design right off the bat. We decided on a marquise shape lodolite quartz as the center stone, black-silver-and white diamond ombre halo with a white diamond band, all set in white gold.

If you're not familar with what lodolite quartz is, it's clear quartz crystal with all kinds of wonderful mineral inclusions inside. This comes in a variety of colors and patterns. No piece is exactly alike. Perfect for our one of a kind fiance-to-be. Lodolite is not a common gem to work with and to get the perfect size and shape we needed I asked our good friend Kurt Card of Foothills Gems to custom facet a piece for us.

After we received the center stone from Kurt that's when the real party started. Here are some production shots The Whittle Master took as he was building the ring...

Behind The Scenes. How We Make Our Custom Signet Rings.

Every piece of jewelry at Gem Steady is carefully made by hand. Today I want to share with you how we make our custom signet rings...

There are many different methods for making jewelry; but to create our signet rings we use the ancient art of sand casting. Watch the video below as we show you how we create molds using carved wax models, clay, molten silver, and whole lot of patience.

Greetings to all of you gem lovers out there! The GS headquarters are sending mass warm and happy vibes to each and every one of you right now.

There are certain elements implanted in every person that unifies us. No matter who you are, what continent you call home, and which side of the bed you sleep on, I can think of something that automatically connects us... we all are inspired by something.

It could be a powerful quote from your favorite poet. It could be a stray, dangling rose in a garden full of thorns. It could be a super-fit mom on Instagram who manages to make healthy dinners for her family, despite being busy 24/7.

The point is, I bet you know of something that makes you thrive. Something that makes you giddy as a school girl as soon as you look at it. One of our greatest inspirations are the gorgeous gems we create fine jewelry out of.

If you are a gem-nerd, you will know the satisfaction of seeing the sun bounce off of your favorite stone, and illuminate it like a fireworks show against the night sky...

Today, we wanted to share two fashion boards inspired by our favorite stones. The rich, golden warmth of citrine gives you an instant burst of sunshine. Our cool-cat obsidian is a little bit urban-rustic, and 100% luxurious.

You know what inspires us. Now, we want to know what inspires you! Tell us below what gets you through a long day, and what inspires you to get your creative juices flowing!

Amazingly Beautiful Pieces by Gem Steady

Hello Gem Steady fanatics! Today we are swooning over the breathtakingly gorgeous feminine gowns that floated down the Spring 2015 runways. May all of the girly-girls out there rejoice! We have been seeing a lot of sheer fabrics, pastel colors, and floral embellishments on the runway, and they are surprisingly easy to pull off, and you can totally edge these pieces out if you aren't into that whole "delicate flower" thing.

Opt for a shorter version of some of the dresses above for a night out on the town (because long gowns and cocktails can get very dangerous), use sheer pieces as an excuse for some creative layering, and add a fitted white-leather motorcycle jacket over a flirty blush-pink number to add a little funk to your look.

Have we mentioned that Gem Steady whips out the perfect elegant touches to compliment the flirty & feminine trend that has been splattered on just about every runway? Gem Steady has something for every taste. Maybe you are searching for a petite trinket crafted out of diamonds and platinum. You may even be searching for a show stopping statement piece made out of amethyst and moldavite. Timeless beauty, and excellent craftsmanship connects each piece that Gem Steady creates. Versatile, elegant, and always unique.... You know you need some Gem Steady in your life!

We hope you are inspired to test out some super-fem pieces this spring! We really admire the spectacular details that were put into all of the looks pictured above. From crystal-kissed lace, to super shiny embroidered satin... The 2015 runways nailed it!
