Summer Must Haves

Hello gem-tastic peeps! I hope you are all having an extra fabulous weekend! Summer offers endless opportunities to have fun in the sun, with friends and family. Whether you are heading to a music festival, pool party, or are having a cozy night by a campfire, chances are you have a few go to pieces in your wardrobe that you consider summer staples. Today, I want to share a few of my summer essentials that I simply cannot live without!

1. Long Statement Necklace: During the brutally hot summer months, I am all about looking chic with minimal effort put in. Long necklaces are fantastic because you do not have to fight with clasps or clips. You simply toss it on, and boom... You are fabulously accessorized! This Gem Steady necklace features Iron Landscape Quartz, and the neutral tones compliment practically all other colors! Have one made at www.gemsteady.com

2. The Perfect Hat: I discovered several years ago that the answer to a humidity inflated hair disaster is a cute hat. I prefer lightweight woven materials such as straw so they do not create a mini oven around your head! Also, I have found that it is far easier to drive with a short brimmed hat compared to the wide brimmed counterparts. Throw this little taupe and peach cloche on with a long, breezy dress or with a tee-shirt and high waisted shorts. Find this hat HERE, and never fear humidity again!

3. High Waisted Denim Shorts: Long gone are the days where we are forced to settle on wearing basic jorts(Jean Shorts). Keeping a pair of high waisted denim shorts in your summer wardrobe is an excellent choice because they are comfortable, they often have adorable buttons, and all you have to do is tuck your shirt in and go. They look a lot more sophisticated than normal old daisy dukes and give you a seemingly instant hourglass frame. Pair them with a cropped top for a fun way to expose a little skin, or go for a lightweight sleeveless blouse for a look that is adorable and comfortable. These darling sailor inspired dark-washed shorts are from ModCloth.

4. Cute & Comfy Shoes: Summer involves a lot of walking, a lot of playing and it leaves absolutely no time for blistered feet. Fun flats are not only stylish, they are also practical! Decorative flats are the answer to all of your summer shoe needs and they are super easy. Just slip them on, and you are out the door! It is smart to have a pair of flats in a vinyl or patent leather material that you can wear in grass or rain without staining. These nude flats with golden accents are such a great summer staple! You can find these cuties at ModCloth

These are just a few items that make my summer wardrobe come together. What pieces do you find yourself wearing a lot in the summer? Summer is such a great time to let your outfit choices represent how fun and great you are! Let a few basic pieces be your foundation so you do not waste a second of your summer staring at your closet, asking yourself what to wear! Thank you so much for reading:) And be sure to follow us on Pinterest where we post a lot of outfit inspiration pictures!

Have a wonderful and safe Saturday night folks, and stay fabulous!

Love, Intern BB

Update on a Classic Look

Happy Thursday everyone! Thursday always feels a bit magical and exciting to me because the weekend is almost within reach! To make your work day go a little faster, I wanted to present an inspiration board that I created. I wanted to do a take on the classic, tailored pants and jacket look. The tried and true pants and jacket look is a must have for the office, but this is a slightly more glamourous take on classic business apparel.
There is a clash of hard and delicate fabrics, which modernizes the look. Silk pants by Etro drape elegantly down the legs, while a stiff wool blend peplum jacket brings structure to the outfit. A beaded black strappy top and romantic velvet pumps make this a great outfit to wear for a special occasion, or when you want to be a little fancy for your night out. A triangular Moldavite necklace by Gem Steady is the showstopper of this look. The neutral tones in this outfit make a great base for such a bold statement piece! Add a few stackable Garnet rings by Gem Steady to add more warmth to this look.
I know we are still in Summer, but I am already excited about Fall colors and thicker fabrics!:) What is your favorite way to jazz up the classic pants and jacket combination? Tell us bellow!

                                                               Shop the look:

Remarkable Ruby

Happy Tuesday again everyone! Time has been just flying by this year and we’re already bringing to see some spring like weather in the Ohio River Valley! In honor of the beautiful spring weather we’ll be discussing an equally lovely gem this week. This gem has been an enormously popular stone for thousands of years. We’ll be discussing the ravish Ruby!

Many ancient societies valued the amazing Ruby even higher than the spectacular Diamond. Rubies have been used to symbolize the sun as a result of the vibrant colors that are seen in each gem. In the past, rubies were worn as a charm to attempt to ward off the plague and other diseases. Rubies have been used to honor the Italian goddess of the twelfth night, Befana, and the Egyptian goddess of war, Sekhmet.

Rubies are also able to keep your body safe and your mind free of sadness. Additionally, this wonderful gem will stimulate the Base Chakra and increase vitality throughout your body and spirit. Rubies will also help to create a clear mind that will enable you to increase your concentration and create a sense of self-confidence. Every natural Ruby is unique and beautiful in the “imperfections” within them. The variations of color within the gem add to the individuality of each Ruby.

Rubies can served a wide variety of purposes that add to the amazing value of the gem. They can be used in some areas such as watchmaking and even in some medical instruments. However, simply wearing a Ruby can help to sharpen your mind and bring a courageous attitude to the wearer. Additionally, this July birthstone can be used to ward off nightmares to the wearer.

Are you looking for a great new Ruby addition? If so, Gem Steady has you covered! Do you have a favorite gem, or piece, that you love wearing in spring? We would love to hear about it, leave us a comment below or tweet us!

Hi everyone I hope you’re all enjoying the beginning of spring! I’m so excited about this week’s post. We’re going to shake things up and, rather than focus on a “gem of the week,” we’re going to discuss a growing trend in the jewelry world. Every bride is unique and today there are a number of brides who want everything from their engagement to their wedding day to be as unique as they are. As a result, non-traditional engagement rings have been steadily growing in popularity.

An engagement ring can be classified as “alternative” for a variety of reason including the metal and gem choice. Gem Steady has also been taking part in this trend with more and more people selecting colored gems such as Moldavite, Ruby, Emerald, rough Diamonds, and Diamond Slices. People from all different walks of life are selecting alternative rings over the traditional diamond engagement ring. A number of stars, such as Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry, and Olivia Wilde, have all opted for alternative engagement rings. Elegant Emerald

From Wikipedia Commons
Happy Tuesday everyone! And welcome to our second week of green-gem-packed month! As much as I love winter, I’m very excited for the beginning of spring. With slightly warmer weather approaching the Ohio River Valley this past weekend, discussing another spring gem seems completely fitting. This week we’re going to learn more about the stunning Emerald.

This great gem can help to promote friendship, create balance within relationships, and can even create domestic bliss and loyalty. Emerald is also associated with the heart and Heart Chakra. The birthstone for those born in May and June, Emerald is known to embody compassion and unconditional love.

Emerald has also been believed to give its wearer the ability to foresee future events. This awesome gem is a stone of wisdom, which can help promote memory and increase mental clarity. Additionally, Emeralds can increase your focus and intent. Emeralds are particularly effective in the work place because it can increase mental acuity, strengthen your memory and inspire eloquence in speech.

In ancient times, Emeralds were used to honor the goddess Venus. Interestingly, Emeralds were sold in markets in Babylon as early as 4,000 B.C.  Also, the Incas who believed the beautiful gem contained a goddess worshiped Emeralds. This beautiful stone was believed to be a symbol of eternal life in ancient Egypt and was even a favorite jewel of Cleopatra. Emeralds were talismans for Aristotle, Alexander the Great, Charlemagne, and moguls of India.

Emeralds have been used to honor a number of other goddesses as well. Including, Annapurna, the Hindu goddess of food, kitchens and cooks. Astarte, the Phoenician goddess of fertility, love and war, has also been honored using Emeralds. This gem has been used to honor three Celtic goddesses of sovereignty, Banbha, Eriu, and Fodla. Mystical Malachite

Photo from Wikipedia Commons
Another happy Tuesday from Gem Steady! In honor of the beginning of March this week’s focus will be on an immaculate green gem. In fact, I’m challenging myself to dedicate each week’s blog to a green gem throughout the entire month. We may still a few weeks away from the famously green holiday of St. Patrick’s Day; however, learning more about a green beauty is a great way to get into the spirit of the holiday. With the cold of winter still lingering on looking forward to classic spring holidays is a great way to warm up.

So try to remember warmer times with me as we dive right into our gem of the week – Malachite! This gorgeous gem’s name is derived from the Greek word for mallow green stone because of its similarity to the leaves of the Mallow plant. This stone was used to create amazing pigment in green paints until around 1800. Ancient Egyptians often mined Malachite between the Suez and Sinai around 4,000 B.C. Ancient Greeks and Romans also used Malachite for jewelry, ornaments and even eye shadow.

The stone has also been used in various decorative manners such as in the Malachite Room in the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg and the Malachite Room in Castillo de Chapultepec in Mexico City. The Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, Missouri, features one of the largest pieces of malachite in North America, which was a gift from Tsar Nicholas II. Malachite has been mined and used as a gemstone in the Timna Valley in Israel for over 3,000 years.

This great gem can also help you to heal both physically and emotionally by stimulating the Life Force throughout the aura and body. Malachite is believed to be a protection stone, which will absorb the negative energies around you. It is also believed to be able to protect its wearer from radiation of all kinds.

Malachite is the perfect gem for a frequent traveler. It can help to alleviate the effects of jet lag, will encourage easy business travel and can even help protect you while traveling on congested highways. Additionally, Malachite is a stone that will help protect airplanes from accidents and miners from unexplained accidents.

This gem also alleviates the effects malaria and Parkinson’s disease. It can also help with asthma, intestinal problems and rheumatic pain. Malachite will help to lower blood pressure, treat epilepsy and vertigo. This gem can also strengthen the immune system and cure kidney and gallstones. Additionally, Malachite will encourage you to take more emotion risks and alleviate shyness. Malachite is associated with the Heart Chakra.

Malachite has been used to honor Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of joy and fertility, and the patron of Egyptian miners. The gem is also used to honor Isis, the Egyptian goddess of life, one of the best-known goddess of Egyptian mythology. Finally, the gem used to honor Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring.

Are you searching for a great new addition to your gem collection? If so, check out Gem Steady’s amazing selection! Do you have any experience with Malachite, or have a favorite green gem? We would love to hear about it, leave us a comment below or tweet us!

Outstanding Opal

Good evening everyone! I just returned from a trip to England a few days ago and while I was there I had the opportunity to see the queen’s jewels. It’s amazing how stunning the gems are and how they sparkle in the light drawing in visitors from all around the world. Luckily, you don’t have to be a member of the royal family to own envy inducing jewels and Gem Steady is an amazing place to find unique jewelry with incredible energy.

Our gem spotlight illuminates an extraordinarily beautiful gem, and one of my personal favorites, opal. Opals come in a huge variety of colors ranging from white, yellow, red, green, brown, black, blue and pink.

The name Opal is derived from the Sanskrit world “upala,” which means stone or precious stone. This amazing gem can be found around the world in places such as the United States, Australia, and Mexico.

In ancient Greece, people believed that Opals were the tears of Zeus and it was valued as highly as diamonds. They thought that Opals gave the gift of foresight and prophecy. In ancient Rome, Opal was worn as a symbol of hope and purity and it was thought to cure illness. Also, in ancient India people believe that Opal was the Goddess of the Rainbow turned into a stone. Interestingly, ancient aborigines from Australia thought that Opal was half serpent and half devil and the colors within the gem were an attempt to lure them into the devil’s lair.

The beautiful gem is often associated with inspiration because it can increase your imagination and creativity. If you’re having trouble beginning a project or a new endeavor in your life just grab your favorite Opal piece and it’ll help to bring you inspiration. However, the amazing characteristics of Opal don’t end there. Because Opal is largely considered a water stone, it can assist you in coping with changes in your life.

Opal is also thought to enhance your memory and decrease confusion. In addition, Opal is believed to be a protective stone that can assist you in dangerous places. This gem will also increase both your self-esteem and sense of self-worth. Like many gems, Opal can bring you happy dreams and help to escape nightmares.

Physically, Opal can help you to alleviate the effects of headaches, Parkinson’s disease, insulin regulation and help boost your immune system and eyesight. Opal is associated with the Heart and Crown Chakras. However, different types of Opal can be associated with other chakras as well. Some types of Opals include Black Opal, Fire Opal, White Opal and Boulder Opal.

Opal originated millions of years ago after silica and water entered various cracks in the ground, which solidified and became Opal. Because this gem contains water it can be sensitive to heat and can crack or chip easily.

Are you looking for an Opal piece of your own? If so, Gem Steady has you covered! Do you have any experience with Opals amazing powers? We would love to hear about it, leave us a comment below or tweet us!

Magnificent Moldavite

I hope everyone’s having another great Tuesday! This week’s gem is a Gem Steady favorite and has even had one blog dedicated to discussing its amazing story! The gem is definitely out of this world, both metaphorically and literally. As you’ve already learned this awe-inspiring gem originated after a meteorite crashed into Earth over 14 million years ago.  This week we’re discussing the marvelous Moldavite.

This amazing gem can be found near the Bohemian Plateau in the Czech Republic and influences a variety of energies including inner vision, power, and love. As a result of this, Moldavite is particularly effective in metaphysical practice. It can even help to accelerate your spiritual path.

Like many gems, Moldavite has a history of being used to honor various goddesses. It was used to honor Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring. As well as, Gaia, the Greek Earth mother goddess, who was one of the first to appear in the process of creation and is honored as being the Earth. Moldavite has also been used as a talisman for good fortune.

Folklore in the Czech Republic Moldavite is thought to bring good luck and harmony to relationships. During the Middle Ages, this gem was valued so highly that only members of nobility or royalty could wear. People in Eastern Europe have been wearing this gem for around 25,000 years. An ancient statue of the Venus of Willendorf was found with a number of Moldavite amulets.

Moldavite can even help to improve your spiritual life by awakening the intelligence of your heart and helping you to disconnect from unhealthy attachments. This amazing gem will also help to create more vivid and meaningful dreams. Moldavite is often used in meditation and can help to open the Heart, Third Eye and Crown Chakras. It can help to create out of body travel and powerful visions. Moldavite is also popular in Feng Shui, and uses the energy of growth, expansion, new beginnings, and health. It can enhance vitality, and helps people to grow. It’s often used in the east and southeastern areas of a home or room.

Would you like a piece of this wonderful gem for yourself? If so, Gem Steady has you cover! Do you have any experience with Moldavite, or have you heard a different version of its origin? We would love to hear about it, leave us a comment below or tweet us!

Fantastic Fluorite

Happy Tuesday from Gem Steady! Time is just flying by this year; I can’t believe Valentine’s Day is this Friday! This week we’ll be discussing one of the most unique gems in the world. The beautiful gem can be found in a number of colors and an unlimited combination of colors making each stone unique. This week’s post will be focusing on the fabulous Fluorite!

Without further adieu let’s jump right into what everyone’s interested in, this gem’s amazing healing ability! Fluorite can help you establish a positive energy by absorbing and neutralizing negative vibrations. Fluorite is widely believed to have a calming effect on your body. It is also associated with the Fourth Chakra, or the Heart Chakra.

It is no surprise that this amazing gem is known to some as the Genius Stone. Fluorite can help to increase your concentration and assist you in decision-making. Fluorite can also assist in creating an opening for the powers of other stones to affect you. It is also used in meditation because it helps to energize the body and raises the power of your concentration. Fluorite is also believed to aid in joint pain caused by arthritis.

This awesome gem was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione after the Latin word fluere, which means to flow. Additionally, even the term fluorescence comes from Fluorite because it often exhibits the effect. The element of fluorine is also derived from Fluorite, which is one of the major sources for the element. Fluorite can be found around the world in a number of countries including Canada, America, Peru, England, China, Thailand, and South Africa.

Fluorite has a huge range of possible colors including blue, pink, purple, green and yellow. In fact, the ancient Egyptians used Fluorite to carve some of their statues. Additionally, they would even create some scarabs out of Fluorite. Further to the east, the Chinese have been using Fluorite to create carvings for centuries.

One of the most interesting parts of this gem’s history occurred around the 18th Century when it was ground into a power and mixed with water to relieve some of the symptoms of kidney disease. Another interesting aspect of Fluorite’s history occurred much earlier in ancient Rome. They used to believe that drinking alcohol from cups carved out of Fluorite would prevent drunkenness.

Are you looking for an awesome gem like Fluorite? If so, Gem Steady has you covered! Do you have any experience with Fluorite or have a favorite Fluorite piece? We’d love to hear or see it! Leave us a comment below or tweet us to tell us all about it!

Amazing Ametrine

Good evening everyone! I hope you’ve loved winter so far. This week we’re talking about another stunning gem that is quite popular here at Gem Steady. This luminous gem is a beautiful combination of Amethyst and Citrine, which creates a unique gem with an equally unique energy. Our gem of the week is the remarkable Ametrine.

This exceptional gem has numerous ways that it can positively affect its wearer. For example, if you leave this gem out in natural light from noon on the day of a full moon and leave it out through the night, it will bring good luck in money ventures for the person who carries the gem.

Ametrine can bring your spirituality into harmony and can even help to inspire a huge flow of creativity, new ideas and insight. This gem has a Third Eye opening property from the Amethyst, which can help to heighten clairvoyance and increases your overall spiritual awareness.

This wonder gem is also used as a healing stone that can remove your pain and tension and bring an overall sense of well being to both your mind and body. It can also help you to remove depression from your life creating more inner peace and tranquility.

Ametrine is also associated with the Throat Chakra, or the voice of the body. The stone assists in ensuring that this important chakra is in balance. It’s essential for this chakra to be in balance because it allows you to express what you think and feel. Additionally, you are better able to express your ideas, beliefs and emotions.

Lovely Lodolite

Happy belated New Years from an unusually cold Ohio River Valley! For the first blog post of the New Year I’d like to cover a unique gem found on Earth. So feel free to grab a mug of your favorite cold weather drink and warm up while we discuss one of the most calming gems on Earth. In the middle of winter there’s something so refreshing about a gem like Lodolite, which, to me, seems to be strongly connected with spring. The clarity combined with the scenic view inside each stone is reminiscent of walking through a park in the first few weeks of spring.

Lodolite is different from many other gems because no two Lodolite stones are the same. Each Lodolite is distinctly its own. Lodolite is known by numerous names including garden quartz, landscape quartz and scenic quartz. It is easy to see why each of the different names has the same inspiration. Looking in through the clear Lodolite is very similar to viewing a garden, landscape or a scenic view.

But, don’t let Lodolite’s gorgeous appearance distract you too much. There’s so much more to this gem. One of the most amazing things about this gem is Lodolite’s ability to promote healing energies, which can help cure virtually any ailment. As if promoting healing wasn’t enough, Lodolite can help you connect with a past life and can increase ESP by heightening your spiritual energies. Lodolite is often used in meditation practices and can even promote loving energies. This wonder gem will also help you become more aware of your own emotions.

Additionally, Lodolite is associated with the crown chakra, which is featured in Hinduism and Buddhism through yoga.  And Lodolite is often used in meditation practices because it can promote spirit guides. Lodolite can also help you let go of bad memories that cause stress. It is very obvious that Lodolite is simply an amazing gem that can help you in a huge variety of ways.

Are you looking for a gem like Lodolite that’s just as unique as you are? Look no further than Gem Steady! Have you had an experience with Lodolite’s positive energy? We would love to hear about it!
